Accessing Services – Legal/Advice Services

Summary – Where people had tried to access legal advice either through Citizens Advice Service or a solicitor a massive 70% reported that they had been unable to do so because of a lack of funding for interpreters. People were very critical of the service provided by Citizens Advice Bureau and other legal services such as solicitors. Most people felt that anything that contained legal wording was too complex and difficult to read creating a barrier for them and that it became very expensive if they had to pay for solicitors’ fees and an interpreter. We were also informed that people felt the level of interpreting in court was poor.
