Accessing Services – Police

Summary – 67% of people who had needed the police or had communication with the police in the last 2 years were ‘unhappy’ or ‘very unhappy’ with the level and quality of communication between themselves and the police. There was a great deal of criticism of the service provided by the police for Deaf people and of the way they had been treated by the police because of a lack of Deaf awareness. 68% had been made to rely on writing things down or trying to use speech and lip reading.
