Each town in the UK is twinned with towns from all over the world. Preston has four twinned towns; Nimes in France, Kalisz in Poland, Almelo in the Netherlands and Recklinghausen in Germany.
At Deafway, we recognise the importance and strength of the international Deaf community and we have therefore developed an exciting new partnership with the Deaf centre in Recklinghausen in Germany. They will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the opening of their Deaf centre in August 2015 and as a sign of our support, a number of Deaf people from Preston and staff from Deafway will be attending.
We were fortunate to welcome two Deaf representatives from the Deaf Centre, Hermann and Uwe, who visited Deafway from the 13th to the 15th of May 2015. We had fruitful meetings which developed our partnership and Hermann and Uwe took the opportunity to meet a number of Deaf people from Preston, including staff and students from UCLAN Deaf Studies, iSLanDS and they spent an enjoyable afternoon with members of Preston Deaf Club.
In future, we aim to continue and build on our partnership with Recklinghausen Deaf Centre and create new links with other Deaf organisations in the towns Preston is twinned with across Europe.
