Deaf-ICS 2013

“I had a work placement where I learnt about the Filipino way of working; that was an extremely valuable experience; learning about the Deaf community, it’s overwhelming.”

Louise, Deaf ICS 2013 Volunteer

Deaf International Citizenship Service

In 2013 we partnered with VSO to host the first ever Deaf International Citizenship Service (Deaf-ICS).

ICS is a youth exchange programme, taking young people aged between 18 and 25 from the UK to a location in the developing world for a three-month period – in our case to Cebu in The Philippines. Whilst there they are partnered with local Deaf volunteers and they work together to undertake voluntary work, which will benefit the local Deaf community and wider society.  Deaf-ICS 2013 was the first ever ICS programme where all of the volunteers (UK and overseas) were Deaf and used sign language as a first or preferred language.

“Go for it! It’s the best decision you’ll ever make.”
